The "Bon holiday" is a kind of Japanese holiday season, which run for a week before and after August 15. During the period, many people receive company holidays and go back to their hometowns.

Originally, bon holiday was a Buddhist festival to recognize ancestral spirits. In the early days, these souls or spirits were believed to return to their families during this period. Even now, it is also an occasion for people to visit their relatives' graves to pray and make offerings of food and flowers.
